Thinking about going Turbo
Well guys, i think its about that time. Ive been tallying up the costs and I've made my decision that I'm going to start slowly piecing together a turbo kit. I was wondering, once done, where is there a good place in the south east who has had experience on doing dynos on s2000's? Also, i was wondering if anyone had any spare turbo parts for sale, because like i said, i am just now starting to piece it together. And what would be the estimated cost on the final cost of the (used) turbo kit, minus a higher stage clutch, fuel pump and other things like that?
also which turbo is best? right now I'm thinking of going with the greddy t517z. not wanting it to be as aggressive as a "race car" because i will still be daily driving the car. but I'm wanting to definitely up the hp a good bit.
if you're just going for a hp boost, go Super Charger, I'd say look into Science of speed or Comptech SC's both are great, there are several others out there too, but those two are some of the more popular from what I've seen
That turbo is too small for our cars. Will barely make 300hp. I would go no smaller than a 3076 garrett or 5857 precision. Our motors are extremely effecient and need lots of airflow expecially in the upper rpm range. Do your self a favor, Don't piece together a kit. It will cost you more the long run and its not worth the hassel. You can get a full blown or pfab stage 1 kit for slightly over 3k that will easily make 400hp. I bought all of my stuff separately and built a lot of my kit from scratch and I still spent in the neighborhood of 5 thousand by the time it was finished. Figure another 1000 for ems, 500 for injectors, 300 for fuel, 500 for guages, 500 for tuning, and 500 for clutch. If you install everything yourself you can save the labor whic h would probably be in the 1000+ range for a quality install. I will give you some advice. If you want a reliable 400hp plan on spending 10 thousand dollars. You can piece together some crap that will sort of work for 5k, but it will not be reliable or fast. Turbo is NOT cheap. It is awesome, but it is NOT cheap. I am a professional mechanic and I have considerable experience with fabrication and it has been constant work and expense keeping the car running reliably. There are also the issue of heat to deal with. Plan on moving the battery, fusebox, eps module, and seriously think about venting the hood or buying an aftermarket hood. The turbo and manifold produce tremendous heat. You'll find that anything not shielded on the exhaust side will quickly cook or melt. I'm not trying to scare you just letting you know what your getting in too. Done right, these cars on boost are insanely fast, done poorly or cheaply it will be a money sucking disaster. If you have any questions or if I can be of assistance with you build don't hesitate to pm me. If your in the greenville area stop buy the shop and i'll take you for a ride.

Alright man. Cool. Alot of info that I couldn't find anywhere else. I definitely want it to be reliable. And I will definitely want to go for a ride. How much hp is yours throwing down? Anything specific kit you think I should go with? I'm really wanting this car to stand out. No matter how long I have to save up.
Im in the 450/475 range power wise. I would decide what kind of power your really after and what you want to do with the car. Then you can pick which setup will work best for you. If your into autocross or tracking you will want somethng completely different than if you like drag racing or just street running. As far as kits i like pfab or fullblown. Both are top quality and there customer service is impeccable. Ptuning and trackforged also make really nice setups but they are a bit more expensive.
