3. The Republican party would use it same old tricks to thrive in that environment. ie Fear, distrust, and anger.

And if you have to leave the coffin sitting outside overnight, the nails prevent the raccoons and other critters from getting in and eating pieces of your loved ones.
Of course, modern coffins don't use nails.
