Well, I'm looking at a few things here:

1. Your tastes do develop over time.

2. When it's a choice, you can appreciate it on your terms. When it's rammed down your throat, you may not appreciate quite as much.

one and 2 are spot on. 3 is actually not correct. While my wife is an excellent cook, my mom's food is still #1.

Nothing, which is what you deserve. As to why everyone, and everything (cosmically speaking) is shitting down your proverbial throat; it's due to your not doing anything.
