Why do people like running...specifically for fun?

Some folks like the release of endorphins. Your body responds well with some exercise every day.

We were agrarians. Before that, we were hunter-gatherers. We need to feed that inclination every day, or else we swallow our barstools with our bottoms.

I get the chemistry of it and the necessity for exercise...I still question why people choose running for fun...

I can see running to hunt. Running to flee. Running for office, even. But running for fun? Don't get it.

Swallowing a barstool with my bottom sounds both uncomfortable AND comfortable at the same time...?

Some folks get their jollys from the endorphin rush in such way as to want to repeat the process.

Other folks just get a hard on from running a certain distance.

My endorphin rush was drown out in the pain of the leg cramps, I guess...

I prefer cycling, myself. My HOPE is that running will get me back in shape to where cycling will be more enjoyable. I've let myself go so far that I need to ease back into this...

Can't remember where it was cited, but there was a study on these two European joggers who apparently were very addicted to running, so much so that they both sustained injuries due to literally running without stop (and thus collapsing and so on). One of them passed away; they were running hundreds of kilometers a week. I'll find it somewhere..

Unkie, here is one you will like. Are part-time band leaders semi-conductors?

No. For whilst they are conducting, they should be conducting to their fullest. That said, given the racks on my sopranos, I am often a conductor with a semi.
