Phew. . . so, living in California, which has the oldest Italian restaurant in the U.S., but is also where we (perhaps to our own demise) have reinvented the pizza at least 2 or 3 times. . .

I have a definitive tie:

Best East Coast/American pizza = Sausage, onions, bell peppers (around here, you have to go to a place called Giovanni's - accept no substitutes)

Best "California Fru-Fru" pizza = There's this place out on Hwy 1. near Big Sur (one of the best drives in the world) that had the fennel, feta, and chicken number that was utterly amazing. I need to get back there. . .
