Common Man Law dictates that you're allowed to name the car a female name or a dog's name (cite: Snake's car, "Bandit").

If it's anything other than that, there's a problem.

I wouldn't go so far as to assume it's an issue with gender identity; he may just not have gotten wise to Common Man Law.
