I guess I just fear the unknown.. I have always bought MACS..never owned/used Windoze. And with all the complaints, etc. I am not rushing to change hardware manufactures anytime soon.

Check the latest customer satisfaction and warranty repair stats by manufacturer. (tech support, etc) Guess who is always at/near the top.

It doesn't take a software engineer to see that supporting every bozo network card and buggy chip set out there is one of the greatest anchors dragging down Microsoft's quality as well as their ability to innovate.
The variety of hardware available is one of the PCs greatest advantages that WinTel has over Mac. Yes, it causes some invariable headaches, but it gives the knowledgeable user the options to customize his PC as he sees it, and drives companies to make faster and better components. Nvidia vs ATI, Intel vs AMD, Nvidia vs VIA, etc have all 'hurt' Microsoft while greatly helping the consumer.

Imagine if we were limited to Honda brand accessories for the S2000.

The better analogy would be if Honda chose which aftermarket companies were allowed to supply parts.

It wasn't meant to be a perfect analogy. Just one that we could all relate to.
