But it goes beyond that. Wheels are part of a car... you can't have a car without them. You can however replace the wheels on your Honda. And your engine, and your tranny etc.

You can replace your HD on your Mac but not your motherboard.

It's by no means a perfect analogy but none are perfect. It illustrates a point.

So how do you like your BetaMax?

Speaking of which... HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray

You Mac disciples crack me up sometime. Again, I like Macs. It's just goofy to have to buy the (very good) hardware at inflated prices to get the great OS. What's wrong with saying, 'I love the product but this is what's wrong with it.'

That's why I try to avoid these discussion these days. I'm almost ashamed to admit I'd like to get a Mac some day.

Anyway, I think I may be buying another PC soon, before I get a Mac. I really want to wait for the MacIntel PowerBook, but my desktop just seems like it's going to fail any time now. It probably has something to do with the power surge that fried my hard drive, and graphics card during a lightning storm. I guess it damaged more than just the HDD and graphics card (not really surprising - though I know that if I had been using a Mac, I wouldn't have any problem, since those come with lightning arresters built in).

Interesting, NP. I've since bought an APC UPS that supposedly protects against surge as well (they also claim they'll pay for my hard drive recovery if I lose any data while my computer is connected to the UPS).
