Fair point. It's probably less about reducing the value and more about the embarrassment of having to drive whatever you people turn my car into...

Every time I think about keeping the Miata I get overwhelmed by the list of things that need to be fixed/changed to make it "worth" it to me...

How about a VW Thing? Not fast, not the most reliable "thing" in the world but cheap to buy, cheap and plentiful parts, has some character, seats 4 and you can drop the top.
