I was in 3rd year of my undergrad and it was my first day of placement at a downtown Toronto hospital. One of the social workers came and said she was supposed to go to a conference in NYC later that week but that she didn't think that was going to happen. We went to the tv just in time to see the second plane hit live. I wish more than anything I hadn't seen that.
The hospital was on an external disaster alert, so we just sorta sat around for the rest of the day stunned. It was extremely bizarre to leave downtown at 4:30 because the streets were virtually empty.

 

<---was at work, and my mom called (the one day in 30 years she overslept!) And she told us a plane just hit the WTC put on the TV>

 

yeah, We had the 42" TV back then and our flat become the news headquarter for all our neighbors. The world just stopped.
