this next question is for people that have driven older S2ks and also newer ones. Is there a significant difference in the way the older S2ks and the older ones handle, drive, feel? Trying to figure out an ideal MY to aim for.

Don't buy any model year greater than an 05. 05 was the last year for the cable throttle. Everything after 05 is drive by wire.

The early ap1s are the most "tail happy" of them all. As the years have gone by, Honda has progressively dialed in a bit more understeer to balance the handling a bit. I'd say if you want an AP1 find the best MY03 in your favorite color that fits your budget. If you want an AP2, again figure out what color you want and then find the best one that fits your budget. Just know that the 06+ switched to DBW and has traction control.

If you plan on cruising around and going on occasional "spirited" drives, both AP1s and AP2s handle excellent. They usually only start to show their differences when you push them hard through the twisties.

I completely disagree. The difference between throttle feel on a DBW and non-DBW is negligible. And stability control is a useful feature, especially on a daily driven S.

That being said, I have an '05 and love it.

I have an 05 also, and the reason I bought an 05 over an 06 is because of the DBW and the traction control. So what do you disagree on if you went 05?

another question... i know some people cut out the catalytic converter, this is supposed to give a little more power but i've also heard that cars with this done do not get pass inspection, is the catalytic converter easy to put back together?
