Default Alien Vs. Predator

Anyone see the trailer for AVP?
These 2 creatures are some of the all time best and they have been improved for this movie
Comes out 8/13
If you like monster movies like me, I can't wait
It will be intense!
BTW, anybody see Dawn of the Dead- remake- this was another intense classic!

Dawn of the Dead (2004) - can't wait for the dvd release!

I'm looking forward to AVP as well. Two of the all-time greatest movie creatures. I just hope the human characters don't mess it up.

The idea of an Aliens vs. Predator movie fills me with disgust. It's ok as a comic book, but to actually make a movie out of it seems like a serious mistake.

The Alien movies as a series have mostly been examples of serious cinema. Each one directed by a different cutting-edge director. Each one a different kind of story, with a different feel and theme. They have never been "just about the monster." They were about humanity's endless capacity for greed. Humanity's meddling in creation, both with robotics and genetic manipulation. Humanity's reaction to a natural force greater than it's own self-centered schemes.

Now we get an exploitation film that is nothing better than those idiotic Universal monster movies from the 40s. "Frankenstein vs. the Wolfman" or whatever. It's really frustrating to seem them pluck out the monster from the story, and thrust it into an empty shell just to hear the cash register ring.

I'm really afraid the Aliens series cannot recover from this. I WAS hoping that we would eventually see another serious Alien movie, maybe even directed by Ridley Scott himself, but now I fear it will never happen. This AVP movie will flop, and then 20th Century Fox will never OK another REAL Alien movie again.

Good point... never thought of it in that manner.

However, the fourth Alien movie completely ruined the "trilogy" for me.

I am hoping that AVP will not be a flop but think there is a very good chance that it will be. We will just have to see. Alien4 and Predator2 weren't worthy sequels, IMHO.

It's pretty typical for Hollywood to squeeze all the money they can from previously successful movies. Hence all the sequels we see. Most are not as good as the originals & most really suck. There are a few exceptions like Aliens.
Most of the newer monster & horror movies use too much computer graphics & give these movies a really fake cheesy look. Actually some of the older monster movies look much better than today's efforts.
Some of my favorites are: Alien/s, The Fly, Hellraiser, Dead & Buried, From Beyond, The Thing-remake, Dawn of the Dead-remake. The Exorcist scared the hell out of me the first time I saw it in the theater. Special effects are important but they must look real or the movie will not seem believable.
I saw a show about the making of AVP & they use mechanical means to create these creatures. They look a hell of a lot better than the computer generated stuff.
The story line for AVP does seem a bit lame but hopefully these mechanically enhanced creatures will provide some thrills.

Alien Vs Predator is just one of those movies where the industry is just trying to suck out as much money as they can from a franchise. Its just like that movie Freddy vs Jason, which i can bet was horrible.

I can only hope it will be much much better than Freddy vs Jason which I wouldn't waste my time or money on!

Hey they could suck my money if they wanted. I would pay to watch that it seem okay but nothing crazy. The one l like was Starship Trooper it reminded me of Alien but just a lot more blasting.

You all do realize that there was/is an Aliens VS Predator book series right?

I know the last time I read one was at least 6 years ago, maybe more, so they are relatively older. Books were pretty well written and really entertaining. I remember one part of the series had a human female soldier actually become a Predator hunter and go through their training, etc. It was pretty damn cool.

Basically, I'm just saying that they aren't necessarily "plucking" the characters out and making a movie. It's been done for a while, in book form.

Go pick em up..I'll try to find a link online

EDIT: Found em! Check the links! Great reads!

The first book you should read! <---about the Aliens

First book of the A vs P series..excellent read!

I have read all of both series, so I am not pulling it out of my ass. Some of the best sci-fi books I have read. I recommend the entire series for sure.
