120 went in - 18 were killed and 78 were wounded - which meant there was only about 1-5 chance of not getting a bullet!

I would like all the training and the fun of the team - but...outnumbered in Mogadishu...no thanks.
I wouldn't want to be in that exact situation, but being special forces yes. Sometimes bad things happen in jobs. You know that before you take the job. Sometime pilots die in airplane crashes and sometimes soldiers die in war. I agree that these particular soldiers didn't have the support needed, but they were fighting for a cause and that is what is important.

True, but I think what was really important was the way that the men of Delta and the Rangers took care of one another, watched each other's backs, and made every effort to not leave anyone behind. Their actions exemplified honor, courage, discipline and esprit de corps. Even if you hate the military, you must surely admire these traits in any human. No matter what their country, color or creed.

I saw the movie last night. Its a good movie. But read the book if you haven't. The book is an unbelievable story. You will feel more educated about the whole ordeal knowing the politics and the thoughts behind the general's decisions. Also the book describes Mike Durant's captivity in detail and how he came to be released. I was kind of surprised at the lack of attention to that part of the story in the movie.

If you do read the book and you have already seen the movie, read the Epilogue in the back first. It tells how Mark Bowden was motivated to write the story and where he got all his information. Very interesting and will make the read better since you already know the story.

I wrote an email to Mark Bowden this week and told him how important I thought his story is and how impressed I was with the book. He must get a trillion emails a month saying the same things I said, and he took the time to write back and say Thank You.
