General Grevious had that hacking cough due to the clone wars which took place between epII and III. Mace Windu(Sam Jackson) Force crushed his chest during their battle. This was of course after Grevious killed 4 Jedi's (hence the 4 Sabers).

Thanks. Though your answer answers the fundamental reason. I am confused at to why a ROBOT has a cough, why does it breathe?

Now that makes sence. So he's kinda like Darth Vader but more machine than what ever being he used to be.

Yeah...people who did not watch the Clone Wars series in cartoon network can not really understand the ferocity of Grievious. He had killed more than 4 jedis including a master, but in the movie, Grievious seemed an easy foe to defeat. I wished they could have shown him slaying more jedi, but I guess time constraints prompted Lucas otherwise. I didn't really like the way Samuel L. Jackson died. I was hoping he would depart on a less gruesome death. After all, he was the top Jedi combatant. Only if it wasn't for Anakin's hormones..

Um this shows even further how dorky I am but in one of the Star Wars books I read as a kid it said that the Empire conquered the Wookie planet and turned them all into slaves. It said that Han Solo was a young officer in the Imperial forces and saw Chewie being whipped and beaten by other imperials. He kicked some ass, freed Chewie and went AWOL.

Top that for nerd info!!!!!!
I think I read this in Splinter of the Mind's Eye...which came out shortly before episode 4 was released....yes I'm a dork sometime also
