Default First long journey with SC

Just thought I let you guys know I'm about to embark on my first long journey since I fitted my Vortec SC.

I'm going to do a round trip of +/- 5000 KM's to Italy and back including a fast stretch down through Germany.

Here's hoping my A/F is not to lean!!

On the dyno the tuner said it was OK, and up until now I've had no problems, but I'm not sure how it's going to be after 10 hours of high speed driving. Still it'll be a good test!!

I was hoping to fit a WB O2 sensor before leaving, but it hasn't arrived in time so I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope all is OK.

In preparation I have also re-fitted my original exhaust, as the thought of all those hours with the "Invidia" was to much to bear.

I'll keep you posted as to how I get on (oil consumption, spark plugs, piston rings, engine, etc.).

I have broken the engine!!!

I don't know what is wrong with it yet, I'll be opening a thread in the "Under the Hood" forum.

All I can say for know is, that I was doing 260 KPH in Germany on the way home, and after I slowed down I could hear a noise from the engine.

It seems to be a loud "ticking" noise comming from inside the engine. I managed to limp home (+/- 350KM's) at 100 KPH, and the problem only became slightly worse.

Strange thing is I don't seem to have lost any power, no engine check light, no loss of fluids.

Could be a valve problem, or big or small end bearing in one of the conn-rods. If anyone has any ideas let me know?

Thanks Pascal, I may need your help in getting some new parts. I don't know what the problem is yet but I think it is most likely the bearings in the bottom end.

Do you know an engine rebuilder?

Same thing happend to my friend with his Turbo'd S. When he finally got it diagnosed he found out that he had cracked the #4 Piston. He also did not see a loss in power. They found it after doing a compression test and then by looking through the underside of the engine with the oil pan removed. He just had a loud "Ticking" noise. Hopefully yours isn't the same but just wanted to give you a scenario that I have seen first hand. When his "Ticking" started it was after a hard run to almost redline while boosting 8psi.
