Since I doubt the DSG system in this one is any better than the VW systems I'm quite sure I'll never want to drive one.

The IS-F is a piece of crap. Cruise at 60 in 8th gear in "Manual" mode. Now pulled the "Down Shift" paddle 5 TIMES to get to third to over take another car...

This car does not have a dual sequential clutch. It has a torque converter so it is more properly categorized as a traditional automatic or auto-manual, albeit one which can be shifted manually.

The DSG, or direct shift gearing, actually has two clutch packs, one for gears 1, 3, 5 and reverse, the other for gears 2, 4, and 6. The way that the transmission works is that the first clutch pack is engaged, and the transmission engages the next gear while the second clutch pack is disengaged. When the transmission shifts gears whether in automatic or manual mode, the transmission disengages the first clutch pack then engages the second pack. In auto mode, a CPU makes the decision when to complete the shift, and in manual mode, the driver makes the shift.

Think of it this way: while one gear is selected the corresponding clutch is driving the gear and the next sequential gear is selected; its corresponding clutch is pending but disengaged or opened. As revolutions rise, the clutch is closed, the gear is shifted, and the next sequential gear is selected by the other clutch. The process is followed up the transmission range and then down again for downshifts. Because of the dual clutches, the transmission shifts incredibly quickly.

This is also a pretty neat video:

The transmission is entirely different than BMW's SMG which I think is no where near as smooth. It is also not at all like Ferrari's F1 gearbox, Maserati's related transmission or Porsche's tiptronic. Nissan will have a DSG in the GTR, and Mitsubishi will have one in the new EVO. BMW and Porsche are all making the switch too so many high performance cars will soon have this technology.

Some day all will bow at the altar of Wolfsburg.

BMW's SMG is absolute garbage. Thank God it dosent overshadow the performance of the M5/6. Those cars are monsters and will still bark its tires violently during every shift. Its nuts how some people have no clue what they're talking about. I've never experienced VW's DSG but its so widely adored that not even I am brave enough to talk shit about it.

I drove the new GTI with it, and it is epic.

No...more like a shift in fundamental paradigms, a transcendent transformation leading to a new level of self-revelation and ontological awareness. "Epic" as in the Homeric sense, if you will.

Yeah, well you have to pity my wife of almost 25 years. She has a two letter abbreviation for my rhetoric starting with a "B" and ending with an "S".
