ok call me an idiot.... i found my problem... the seat belt in was caught on the very bottom of the door on the passenger side... of course i never even thought of that because i never ride passenger... ugh...
im at work
i have noticed the same with mine. my keyless remote only works about 3 feet from my car. i read on a thread a while ago that people take speaker wire and attach it to something under their drivers seat and increased the signal strength.

My replacements were "Panasonic CR2025 3volt" pancake batteries.
OR - was the passenger door issue the root of the problem?
i think the passenger seat belt was caught right where the door latches thus blocking the door from locking? the door would close and latch but wouldn't lock. the keyless works fine now. but i should probably get new batteries like jimmi said, they are 4 years old. i'll find some of those pancake batteries rehile. thanks guys. sometimes i find my keyless not working around big shopping areas i have to be right by my car to lock it like you said ryan. i'm not sure what that is caused from.
