Thumbs up PAR Syncromesh Trans Upgrade - Any Experience

I have been trying to figure out what I am going to do about upgrading the transmission. Right now the best option I see is from PAR Engineering out of Austrailia. With a group buy of 4 people I can get a complete set of Syncromesh gears and shafts for $4,500.

Question 1: Does anyone have any experience with PAR Engineering

Question 2: I only expect be running around 350Ftlb of torque, with this small amount of power is an upgrade even needed?

Info I found on PAR Engineering

http://www.par-engineering.com/

Synchromesh engagement 1st~6th

• Ratios – 2.79, 1.80, 1.29, 1.04, 0.86, 0.72 (with std 1.11 ratio reduction drive)

(Actual gear ratios – 3.10, 2.00, 1.44, 1.16, 0.96, 0.80)

• Straight Cut to minimise thrust loads

• Modular main and output shafts for ease of maintenance, repair and ratio changes

• Super strong EN36C material

• All parts treated with advanced cryogenics and heat treatment processes

• All parts shot peened for maximum reliability

Optional Output Reduction Gears (1.11)

may i ask why you are thinking of this, think how many stock boxes you could buy for that amount

most people are using stock boxes or are you thinking of dragging the car ??

Yes, I know that is what I keep thinking. I was actually debating on purchasing an AP2 trans and taking the internals and having them heat treated and case hardened. I need to do more research on what the failure modes are before I make the decision.

I would like to take it to the drag strip, but I will only be able to make one pass at the speeds I anticipate so I don't anticipate doing much drag racing.

What clutch are you running?

thats a tough question, cuase it depends on driving style and use <read abuse> ur gonna give it.

you are approaching the power level though that stuff starts to break in gear

i would drive on the stocker until it broke and then decide if 800-1000 on a used stocker is worth it, considering its gonna break again, or spending the loot on a crazy swap.

I ran a PAR syncro and dog box setup on my Subaru. I had no issues with the syncro setup, but I broke one of their dogboxes. That said, it was used and I have no idea how many miles or passes were on it, and I was learning how to shift a dogbox, so I wouldn't hold that against the company.

Seems like good stuff from my experience, and it's cheaper than the PPG stuff.
