Decided the S2000 is for me! Anybody bought one on CarMax?
Hell yeah. Cali probably has the most dense population of S2000 owners. There are many regional forums and subforums.

My latest purchase, a 2004 turbo S2000 is my favorite car yet. I've owned all manner of affordable performance cars. And, because I work for a billionaire, I get to drive some really impressive cars.
Some highlights:
Ferrari Enzo
McLaren F1 (Federalized) and yes, it's WAY faster than the Enzo
Mercedes McLaren SLR
Ferrari 550, 599, 360, 360 challenge cup car, 458 (yes all around awesome) and more
Plenty of BMW stuff
Plenty of Porsche stuff
Plenty of open wheel and conventional race cars. (mostly vintage and historic)
And the ABSOLUTE best car I've ever driven....
The McLaren M6b... Whoa boy, that was fun.
I'm not here to brag or show off (as I'm no fantastic driver) I'm just here to say that the S2000 really is something special. It may not achieve supercar status from the statistics. But don't be fooled into thinking it's not an incredibly capable car. Because it is. Add a bit of turbo power, a few properly applied tweaks such as tire choice, alignment specs and suspension mods. You've got a real world, supercar. At 1/10th the cost. If that's not performance car nirvana, I don't know what is.
ETA: The S2000 has no modern replacement. The Miata comes closest and is way down on performance. But better than that, the S2000 has a huge aftermarket industry. A Mustang, Camaro or S2000 are still the choices if you want to build a performance convertible for a reasonable cost. And, while I absolutely love Mustangs, they don't feel like an S.

Oh, and nothing I've ever driven compares to the raw fun of this. An all aluminum aircraft style chassis Can-Am car, 800HP and 1680 pounds.
