Exclamation Future S2000 Owner

Hi,

I'm a future owner of a s2000. Right now I have my eye on a black 02'. Any problems I should be looking for when I go look at it? Like mechanical, visual defects? I sort of went in blind when I bought my first convertible, a miata (too poor at the time). So now I have a bit more saved I'm moving up a notch. Is the the s2k a lot tougher for DIYers to work on it? I've gone as far as switch out a clutch slave and brake pads but never done engine work to give you an idea of how mechanically inclined I am. This will be my daily driver so I hope it'll be everything I've wanted in a sports car.

Thanks.

-Ed

Hello and welcome to s2ki. service records are a big help. and buying it from a adult is wise. Long as it has not been abused. 9k clutch drops, or wrong gear over revs, and run low on oil. are what I hear about the most. take it to a trusted mechanic for a once over. good luck

I take it that owners of s2k's won't be scared off by me asking for a compression test right? Of course I will be sure to have a mechanic inspect the car for me but how much would the compression test run?

Thanks.

no offense at ALL to black owners but imo check out some other colors as well. i just don't think the black goes so well w/the s2k and the black top

Compression test will just about tell you everything you need to know about the motor. Take it to a mechanic who knows S2000s, makes all the difference.

Can someone recommend a place to get a compression test? I'm looking at getting a salvaged title one in Sacramento.

Thanks.

Update: Just test drove a 01 today! It's blazing fast! Almost as good as a RX-8! It had a driver side door replaced. The damage looked like it broke a few bolts on the front driver quarter panel. Asking is $13.5K. Comments?

Going to get the car. I went to have it inspected. The compression is good and everything! It's a GO! You will all seem me posting a ton of questions on here! Salvaged but hey it's a GREAT car!
