Default N00b here debating S2000 or G35

Hey guys,

Oh some info about me, 25 from Chicago, currently drive a supercharged 03 Corolla(yes a supercharged Corolla )

Was trying to buy a Supra, but was unable to as no one wants to finance a 94. Anyways so I was looking @ S2000 and G35 Coupe(6speed).

I know they are two totally different cars, but I like both. So would go either way.

G35 might me somewhat of a better DD, as it would attract less attention parked on a street.

Well I have been searching and reading a lot on here, plenty of great info. I do know I want a S2k with the 2.0(AP1), mainly for higher redline and cheaper price.

I am torn between getting a MY00-01 or 02-03. I have read the differences and main thing is the rear glass/plastic.

I plan to use this mainly with the top down(unless rain or freezing cold). Not as a daily driver otherwise.

I guess for the price difference I am really torn on the whole glass vs plastic. I am in IL and find many 00-01 for nicer prices. I find 02-03 for nice prices on ebay in far states. I would really like to inspect the car before buying so makes it a problem.

Is the plastic really that bad I guess is my Q? I am an anal detailer, used to detail pro and own about $600 or more of detailing products . So maintaining plastic is no problem for me .

Also since search is kinda finicky. What if I were to clean up the plastic real well and tint it. Would it last longer?

Thanks!

In case anyone wanted, here is a few pics of current car .

the plastic window is fine, just need to polish out the scratches once in a while . if you put on a tint it will be less susceptible to scratches.

with that being said if you do go for an 02-03 it comes with some nicer comfort features (tweeters, console cover), but an older ap1 is fine.

you can always change out the soft top for one with a glass window for ~$700

I wouldn't pay a nickel over 17k for that car.I don't care what type of turbo or super charger it has...it's still a 7 year old car.You can pick up a new one for around 30k.

good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.

peace

I just sold my 06 G35 coupe 6speed and picked up an 07 S2000 so maybe I can share my thought process with you. If I had been commuting daily, the G35 would probably have been a great car. It was comfortable, well finished, great looking, and had nice power. However, the car became a spare about a month after I got it and it therefore was used as a fair weather driver. In 15 months, I put 2500 miles on it.

As the weather got nicer, I thought that if I was going to have the car as a fair weather driver, I wanted something with a larger fun factor and looked into the 350Z Roadster and the S2000. The choice for me was the S2000 due to some less than stellar issues with the earlier 350Zs which I was afraid might pop up in the 07's. Also, the cash to dealer incentive on the S2000 was so hard to beat.

Like others said, go drive each and see what you think.
