newby question
I'm thinking of getting an s2000. I test drove an 01 with 34K mi. last week and it didn't seem as stable as I had thought. It sort of seemed unstable under braking and wobly on some roads. It was stable up to 90 mph on the highway however. Could it be that the suspension was already getting old? I test drove an 04 also with 13K mi. and it was really stable and solid feeling.
I noticed on the bottom of the 01 two black marks on the undercarriage on the frames. The rest of the frame was gray undercoating but at the top of the frame near the front of the car someone has painted it with a black undercoating. I thought this looked suspicious. Is this normal?
thanks

Joe, Welcome to the site. I really can't address your undercoating concern. I would stay away from that one; you even state it looks suspicious (and felt so). You experienced a big difference between the two. Your second test drive reflects the handling characteristics of a properly maintained S2000; steering should be nice and tight, sticks to road like it
i remember reading that the earlier model years were alot more senstive in the rear than the later ones. that might be the reason why you saw a difference in the 01 and 04. i'm not sure how the 02 and 03 compare to the 01 though.
did you ask the owner why the paint was different?
