S2000 Market Prices
Yea, I was about to walk out when he flipped the price on me, but I was so tired and exhausted of running around, calling, emailing, reading about it that I just wanted to buy the damn car already without getting jerked around, but thats the only way they do business. I just figured I could get them to do something about the accessory prices seeing how they make boat loads on that as well.
If the hardtop is anymore then $2700, im goin to laugh in his face. Im not sure where I put the info, but somewhere on this forum, i think, I got a phone# to call a dealer out of state that will ship it to my door for $2700. I think the price was $2500 + $200 shipping. So if this dealership can sell it to me for $2500, the dealership I am getting the car from cost should be below $2500 from my understanding...but I am almost certain it will not.

PM Hardtopguy, dme. Get a quote. Frankly, you're better off buying stuff off the vendors here than from your dealership, but only if you're willing to do a little wrench turning.
I think the going rate is $2800 or so. I don't think you'll get below $2700, but it's definitely worth a little legwork.
Also, since you're getting Berlina, you might be able to locate a used top in great condition... Just a thought.

OK ill look into that, my intention with accessories was to buy through other means then the dealer, but I figure Id give it a shot and see what kind of price theyll throw at me.
For a used one, is Berlina black an easy color to find used ?

The hardtop is handled by the parts department, so the car sales manager's word means squat. More than likely your sales guy goes over to the parts department all the time telling them they can't make a sale unless they can get the parts for $X. When the parts guy agrees, they come back to you and tell you they can get you the parts for $X+$100. They just took a hundred bucks out of the parts department's pocket and put it in their own. This is why the parts department is usually unwilling to cut the car sales guy a good deal. When the car sales guy says he will get you the part at his cost, he means at the parts department's cost plus the parts department's profit.
I was stubborn and got my hardtop when I bought the car. The dealership hardly ever sold one, so they had no idea how to deal with it. They torn the interior lining. They didn't try to hide it, but it took a couple weeks to get the headliner replaced. The tear is gone, but now the back looks a little odd where it meets the window. If I had it to do over again, I'd order from Hardtop Guy or the other source that is talked about on this board.

Well, I knew I shouldnt of got my hopes up. I received the call today, and well, their "cost" for the hardtop is $2800, so your right. I told them I would buy it elsewhere then, but I get another call a little later and well. "Hello, Yes, we just received your black S2000, it has 33 miles on it but its damaged, theirs scratches everywhere and the bumper is messed up" This I was not expecting...but basically after he told me that he said his hands are tied and he cant do anything else. I simply took it as, he put too much effort into the sale already and doesnt wanna spend another minute finding my car. So, I am back to contacting other dealers.
Youd figure the dealers or whoever pays the transporters would hire people that are capable of transporting a $30,000 piece of merchandise without damaging it. I guess not.

Well, that's a shame, dme, but after what you told me earlier, I'm not surprised these guys are being f**kheads. At least they were (presumably) honest about the damage.
Oh well, start over.
