Should I Buy An S2000?
Nice forum you guys have here! Im just looking for my next car, and this car is looking real good right about now. Took me awhile to read all 6 pages(mostly going off topic due to jackasses), but its been quite insightful. Main points for getting this car are: I love driving, my current car doesn't give me the satisfaction I want, want an n/a car thats also RWD, good manufacturer, and I love the wind with a freshly shaved head
Cool thread guys, thanks for the good advice and such. I just blew up my brand new SVT Focus and I'm thinking about an S2k for a next toy.
I'm going to pick one up in the next couple of months. And it MUST be blue or yellow. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I was thinking about going with a used S2000 just to let someone else take the blunt of the hit for any car's worst depreciation years. (Generally the first 4). However, I'd rather get into a car that I know won't have too many problems since I will be getting my MBA at the same time (doing an evening MBA program), and I'd rather not have to pay for $1500 in tranny work at the same time I have to buy a $1500 laptop. What's the story with the transmission problems on pre 2002 or 2003 (which is it?) models.
There is a tri-black 2000 S2000 sitting on a dealer lot that if it's still there when I get back from vacation in mid-March (it sat there all winter, I drove before winter then decided to wait and check out the 350Z when it came out, then I decided to wait until after winter to buy the S) I might consider buying it. It has 16k miles on it. The dealer is asking for a ridiculous price (30k, but if they become resonable I'd consider it. New is 33 isn't it? I think 3 years of warranty is worth 3 grand and I know this dealer will move from MSRP.)

Thanks for assuring my thoughts on price. 23 grand (maybe a little more) is about what I figured based on what I saw out on www.cars.com.
If the dealership wants that much, maybe they can get it, but not from me. I don't my driving a hundred miles to pick up a car if it's going to save me $7 grand.
Here's another question. The car had a REALLY annoying rattle coming from behind the driver seat when the top was down. Is that a common occurance, easy fix thing? Is that something that happens on all S2000s?
