If you have to ask, then it is not for you. Like buying a motorbike, you either love then or hate them, no middle road. I hate these sort of threads, "do I or don't I". The question that I like to put to those people is, are you this indecisive in your business transactions that allows you to afford such a vehicle? Maybe they should try driving a donut, or better still, a new beetle.....
To DeepdishsS2k:
It sounds like you are interested in an S2000 primarily as a tuner base car. If so, it is the wrong car for you. That's because, according to my research, the car is about as "tuned" as it's going to get, without breaking something expensive. There are dyno and timed reports on these boards showing that things like CAI's and catbacks produce only a slight increase in performance. Ditto for devices that cut the VTEC in at 4000 insted of 6000rpm. These are fairly low dollar mods. Go to the higher dollar mods like superchargers, turbochargers, and the like, and you will run into the problem of the trans. clutch, and diferential being unable to take it. My sources for this are the "Road and Track" tech dept. , with whom I've cooresponded. I've even seen R&T reports on supercharged S200s that didn't perform as well as stock in 0 to 60, as the benefit cuts in much higher up in speed. Oh, you can spend $20,000 in mods and get a top end of 155 instead of 150, and possibly wreck your drivetrain in the process, but that does not make this a very efficient tuner car base.
With the S2k, what you see is what you get. Test drive one. If you like it as is, buy it. If not, look for something else, because you are going to practically have to remanufacture the whole car to get significantly more.
Thanks,
Richard

I'd have to say that with the owners on this board, you've got a group of people who are passionate about this car. What Richard said in his second paragraph strikes a chord; I knew I wanted this car when I saw it. Then I knew I was totally hooked when I drove in my friend's S.
I would tend to agree that modding this car to really bump the power is expensive and frustrating. However, this site is a good resource if you want to go that route. For me, stock is beautiful.

ight look this is my deal....all i want is a nice looking car which the s2000 def has...and a great handling car which the s2000 definitely has..(road and track and car and driver)...but i alos want a car with some power...i don't want to be like all those honda civic tough guys that just make their car look nice but it's slow as f*ck..(sorry about the language)....i just want to run low 13's and then i will make my baby look nice (top secret body kit maybe) and then do my suspension and call it a day...
the reason for all of these questions is do to the fact that i have had 2 cars (98' 240sx and 97' N/A supra) in the past year and i have gotten rid of them becuase of the fact that the 240 was automatic and the supra was n/a....so im just really to get the right car and im tryin to make sure this is the one for me cuz i just want to keep a car for once and be happy and i think that the 2sk is the one for me....thaknx guy for all the help...

Hmm... According to Car and Driver, it does a standing quarter mile in 14.4 secs. How much money do you really want to throw in there just to gain one second? I know one second means a lot in the world of racing but... it's definitely not a Civic. You've got the power and speed already without doing any mods. How can you be frontin' if you've got an S2000? I don't see anything wrong with a stock S2k and this is coming from a girl who wanted a 10 second del Sol.
Check out the thread on supercharging a S2k ::click here:: and see if that will be of any help to you. But even normally aspirated, the S2k is definitely more fun than a Civic any day! And I should know. I just came back from driving a 2003 manual tranny Civic to New Mexico (from California)! I would rather have driven my S2k but since I was bringing a car to my little sister, I don't think I would have wanted to leave the S2k with her.

As my 8 year old daughter said the first day we got it home - top down of course - " I love the wind in my ears". That should say it all. In, addition ,as all of the other S2k fanatics have said, the car has few frills; rightfully so. It is probably one of the best sports cars ever made in mass production for the true sports car enthusiast rich or poor. If you don't enjoy driving with complete attention to the driving experience every time you get behind the wheel then get a Mercedes or a Z4. The S2k is the sports car for the "every man/woman". I don't know how long Honda can make this marvel for the money. I'm just glad I have mine.
I have heard quite a few people say if you can't own a Ferrarri, the next best thing is the NSX. The next best thing after that may be the Sk2000. Mine is not yet 3 weeks old and I'm still learning how to drive all over again. It's deep.
Enjoy the drive,
hensonbear
BTW - the only sound better to my ears is the rumble of my 69 GTO.
