Should I Buy An S2000?
Pros: Great looks, "rare" in the sense that many people don't know what it is, draws alot of attention, handles like its on wheels, peppy motor, excelent shifter, just an overall GREAt drivers car.
Cons: Space / Practicality. I went from driving a ford explorer to driving this... it's gonna take some time getting used to.

hi everyone, this is my first time on the forums. I have a 98 integra gsr fully built and i win my buddies s2000 all the time but i have never felt the feeling of an s2000. i am now selling my car for a s2000, if you are half-way intelligent BUY A S2000!!!!
Pros: Fun to drive on the highway and espically in the canyons. Not to many of them where i live. Styling, interior is perfect, everything fits and is just in the right place not to far not to close. Top down driving is so much fun. Great track car and a great race car with some mods. Dashboard is made for the driver and not for looks. Only 2 seats so now i dont have to take my brothers friends or my friends girlfriend with me. A great car for the money
Cons: Clutch is kinda weak ( I think the other driver who i bought it from might have something to do with that) Feel like im abusing it when i wanna go fast. Tricky for new drivers ( I let my dumbass friend drive it and it was his first driving any performance car and he almost crashed it) My dealer likes to blame me for problems with the car. Low end torque ( I live in south bay in california and theres traffic and lots of stop and go over here) My friend likes to compare it to his 49K Porsche Boxster to my 32 grand S2k. Doesnt sound like my 350Z, doesnt come with 550hp stock
P.S. If you've never driven in this car or never driven one before i suggest you go and test drive one before you start lookin at buying one. It doesnt fit all people, my friend loves convertibles and quick cars and thought the S2k would be perfect and ended up buying it and not liking it. This isnt a car for everyone

I'm a new member. I've been a casual browser for the past few months and have read through 19 of the 24 pages for this thread. It's been EXTREMELY helpful (thanks).
I currently own a 2004 accord EX-v6 manual. I was 23 years old when I was searching for cars to buy and the S2k insurance was outrageous for being under 25; so I got the accord instead.
I'm looking to buy a used S2k; year 2003 or higher. I've gone through all the first time joys of buying something brand spanking new, and paying an extra 7000 or more to drive it off the lot isn't worth it to me anymore.
A few questions I have that I didn't see on this thread (or others related to new buyers):
1. How many miles is too many when purchasing a used S2k?
2. Mystery S2k problems I should look for that an inspector may not know to look for?
3. Honda Care Warranties and dealerships - how do they treat the 2nd owner of a used s2k; namely if it's been regularly serviced at another dealership and you're now at a new one?
4. SURRISE! peekaboo costs for s2ks with 30K+ miles
5. Private seller vs. dealership used s2ks
My first car was a used Sebring convertible from a dealership (hold your jokes please). It had serious problems within year and a half and had to sell it. I don't want to buy ANOTHER used car with a million problems that's nothing but a money leech; learn from my previous mistakes and take more advice from you all. Any more info on "so you wanna buy a used s2k" kinda stuff would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Short answer: there isn't any bad year, and there's no high mileage issue.
There are lots of small things that wear out (top, seat bolster foam, etc.), but mechanically speaking the cars turn out to be pretty tough.
I recommend for anyone looking at an "AP1" (MY00 - MY03) to do a compression and leak-down test on the engine to get some confidence that the car hasn't been overrev'd or oil starved. A competent mechanic can also inspect the suspension. During a drive, the clutch should feel fairly light and the shifter should feel great, as always.
Strongly recommend complete / total fluid changes on any car that's a couple of years old or more (the introductions FAQ thread points to the oil journals which have all the gory details).

I want to keep the Integra GSR but can't really afford to keep both. So I can't help wonder how much better the S2000 is going to be with rear drive handling, excellent balance and 240HP over the GSR. I assume it will bring me closer to the thrills of riding my motorcycle??
Now I'm wondering how others who have made the same transition from GSR to S2000 are faring. Are you happy you made the switch? Are there any features/characteristics which you miss now that you are driving the S2000?
Obviously, since I live in Massachusetts, I have to look at winter driving conditions and also the fact that there is very little capability for a roadster to carry cargo (our family car is a CR-V though which takes care of both issues) but what else will I miss if I give up my beloved Integra?
I ask these questions now before i test drive one because I'm afraid I'll just get hooked on the S2000 without thinking things through.....
Hey All,
Pro: It's like Kahlua, "The everyday exotic". You get exotic looks and performance along with Honda engineering, reliability and price.
Pro: Like other Hondas, it's not usually the best at any one thing, but the best overall, which is what matters.
Pro/Con: You sacrifice the typical Honda practicality for atypical performance. But it is still more practical than most others in it's class
Pro/Con: It's so highly optimized from the factory, that it's expensive/easy to screw up, rather than improve performance.
Con: insurance rates
It's been said many times, many ways. It's not a car meant for everyone to like, but some to love.
