Default What year s2000 should I buy?

If I do end up buying an S2000 what year should I buy, milage to look out for and any common problems. I want to spend about $19,000 in auto trader and the only years I see are 00-02. Which year should I buy and what should I look out for...

Thank you,
Nick

I would go with a 2003, might still be under warantee, in which case you wouldn't need to look out for anything! You also have the 9000rpm redline which is a big plus in my book.

Don't the 2000, 2001, and 2002 all have a 9000 redline as well?
2000-2003 (Ap1) = 9,000 RPM Redline
2004 - 2006 (Ap2) = 8,300 RPM Redline

'02-'03 is what I settled on (bought a late-'02) and I couldn't be happier.

Actually, the windscreen was an option on the 2000 models and was standard every year after.
2002+ models had the glass window in back and that is only good from the standpoint of easy maintenance. The plastic windows on the 00-01 years tend to get creased and cloudy when not properly taken care of.

Things to look for are tears in the fabric top behind the side windows, fading of the tail lights on early models, and the amount of tire tread on the back wheels.

Faded tail lights are covered under a TSB as a non-compliance issue. The dealer will/should replace them for you.
