NA: ITB's
ronac, my idle is around 950-985rpm with a 14.5 afr. lots of time i spent tuning the cold start.... i think im around 16 degrees at idle and i dont touch it. also what nate said, i just concentrate on the 3-4 cells around the moving cell
francesco... IAVC you dont need like wildcard said... it's all in the fuel and ignition tuning to set the cold idle. engine enrichment i spent a lot of time tuning and it's worth it, one of the best part of the ems that i tuned correctly. i still have my AC and heater though i dont use AC that much here in the bay area... i always work on fuel most of the time to stabilize idle. also since the air density chage a lot here in SF, i use the air compensation to adjust the map with the air change.
alejo, like what wildcard said, you can trim the decel parameters or watch the cell when load drops and lean that out....
my gas mileage also stayed the same and i can change it if i want to.... haha if i wanna commute and wanna save gas, i just load up my "lean" map. my empty light tunrns on at 290 miles.
nate i also have to perfect this one spot on fuel and or timing, around 4500 rpm, righ around where the VTEC transition.... everyewhere im around 13.9:1 but around this area where it gets rich at 12.... i guess 12 is not really that rich.
did some tuning again on the freeway today, 14 miles back and forth, i still have my "winter" map and it's geting hot here in SF bay now... i made some good changes, im happy
guys that want to go ITB, it's not that hard to tune.... just basic understanding of the fuel injection, air density and mixing them correctly.... just like those FI guys, they deal with boost and fuel but they also have to deal with LAG hahaha.... us ITB guys deal with air air air and fuel, then we have to deal with a frekin nice sound and throttle response
sorry for the long reply, i havent read this all day, so i put it all in one

Do you have a tuner Steve?
Thats the first step. Get ahold of a really good tuner and do some talking. I was talking to Jeff Evans for a little last year about Haywards for my car. I learned alot. I still think we can tune these from an established base map and tweak it.
The hardest problem were going to face is the inconsistent weather around here. ITB's are sensitive.

well i installed it, towed it to modacar for dyno tune/start up.
casey from modacar tuned it on their dyno using the 1052 basemap. drove home after 2 hours. tuning = money, if i wanted it tuned perfectly right away, i woulda paid tons of money with all the time on their dyno. so had him tune it for driveability make sure i dont detonate throughout the whole rpm range.
since then i did all the tuning myself, plus their dyno is not load base.... tuning is a lot better with real road load, so a lot of street tuning is the best way to tune ITBs. i did a lot of datalogging, but most of the time, i drive and my finacee in the passenger seat with my laptop haha while i do pulls on the freeway looking at AFR and tell her what cell to adjust .... so i tell my friends that my fiancee tuned my car if they ask who tuned it

Also, what would possibly cause this with the ITB setup?
if the car is not tuned, it is better to put more fuel than no fuel...
engine detonation is caused by lean fuel.... so it is better to startup on the rich side if you are not tuned.
that's why i would recommend to get a wideband so you see your AFR all the time ratherthan guessing. around 16 and above is scary, but then too rich around 10 is not good either coz too much fuel can damage piston seals.
here's a sample of my old maps...
left side is the first map, no fine tuning done, just startup and driveability... right is after i fine tuned it... but thathas changed again since then,i have like 50 different maps so far haha

So it sounds like everyone gets a starter map and then mods it everyday they need to meet some condition. An on-going task... I guess a system that can store multiple maps would be a big help....
