Ya, if they're done with the paving they definitely have to regrade and put some dirt around the edges of the track so if you drop a tire off it's less dramatic. Not that it ought to be perfect but it clearly needs some work.

Looking at some pictures I'm not surprised events got cancelled. Definitely isn't a whole lot of run off room.. I think I saw at the end of the main straight there are barriers.. That's gotta be a little unnerving, it's like summit main on turn 1 with barriers right past the pavement.
Summit did some upgrades after that last tragedy. They have tires at turn 1 (not sure how much it helps at a hundred thirty miles an hour but at least they're trying) and did upgrades to keep deer out.

Which walls are you referring to? I don't see a pond anywhere..

There are certainly a lot of walls. Nice to see there aren't walls at the end of the main straight but there are walls on the right side at the end of the straight and there's no shortage of walls in the next set of turns.

I guess I was thinking this would be more VIRish vs. Summit, but seems to be more the latter (Summit Main has more runoff in a lot of areas).

What scares me the most, if you look at the track map (http://roadcourse.dominionraceway.com/track-info-2/) and compare it to that video(@1:06-1:14 and 1:28-1:32 mark), the end of "Jacks Hammer" appears to be quite a bit higher in elevation than the beginning of "Big Esses". They would need to build a high barrier to separate the two properly or I could see a car going off/hitting oncoming traffic on the other part of the track especially in a wheel to wheel scenario. I'm sure they will address that in the coming weeks before official track days. I am excited for a new local facility, but I was also hoping for a more "west coast"/VIR run off areas than what this track appears to offer.

@ :33 second into the video, take away the concrete barriers and it looks like a 20 foot drop into what I'm assuming will eventually fill with water?

I'm sure it's still a work in progress and I'm just happy to see more / another road course being built.

Oh ya I see what you mean. I looked at the aerial video and you can see some culverts that direct water underneath the track to that area. It looks like there are raised/elevated parts of the track so it looks like some areas in between will likely collect some water with heavy rain. I guess we'll just have to see how it turns out.
