Thinking about it some more, my only real complaint about novices with no instruction is that mirror awareness was pretty bad. I was stuck behind an 86 for 2 whole laps with me close enough that he should have seen me. Likewise, there was a time I got caught at the end of a train of 4 cars and everyone was oblivious to the fact that a point-by or 2 should be happening.
Ya, I'm sure the wet made most people a lot more cautious. Awareness over everything else I think is the biggest problem for novices without an instructor. While giving point bys and avoiding trains is one thing, the bigger issue I think is simply keeping your eyes up and looking ahead (this took me several weekends and constant reminders by my instructor till I was pretty good about it). On a track with blind corners this is particularly important so you're always looking at the flag stands, and even if the flag stand is late to catch it, you are looking ahead and react to it yourself. Having another set of eyes for novices is huge and I think it's a big risk without having an instructor..

Trains are a problem even in higher run groups, I think it just all depends..

I just got in from Shenandoah and boy o boy I had such a great time.

The S2 and Shenandoah are like a perfect match made in heaven. Lol.

I'll post my summary on my take on everything tomorrow once I can analyze my vids and have a clear head.

Special thanks to Skatebrian for being an awesome instructor and putting in my cleanest lap at 1:46.9.

Hey man nice driving out there. Glad you had good time and it was nice meeting you. A 46.9 is a really good time for your first time there, and for your first trackday ever thats pretty amazing!

But this was a pretty awesome weekend. It was cool to finally meet some of you guys from the forum and to put names to faces. I look forward to driving with you guys on track sometime soon.

We had some pretty awesome sessions in the red and black groups. I had a good battle with Derek. We were wheel-to-wheel from the top of the corkscrew, through big bend, and then drag raced down the back straight. It was pretty awesome.

I also managed to reset my PB at a 1:36.5. The car definitely had a 35.9 in it but I lost over half a second on that particular lap from a fuel starve issue that I had been plagued with all weekend. Anyways I throw up some video later on.

Nice to meet you man! Yep a 1:46.9 is no slouch for your first track day! I'll definitely see you around at the track.

Yep, very cool to meet some new people. Skilleds2000, topplayer, and skatebrian. I'm sorry to disappoint you Brian that I'm not a "white guy," but I'm half if that makes you feel any better.

Big thanks to Brian for the ride along. Man, homeboy moves! I'm not gonna lie, you take the carousel so fast, your car bottomed out a couple times I was like "damn I hope we didn't brake something." Clearly I'm a big puss. Man so you set a new PB on the last session? The fuel starve problem get better w/ more gas? Jeez, a 1:36 is nuts.. The ride along just made it clear I have a lot of learnin to do.

Derek's new motor is sick. The TQ difference between the F20 and J35 is nuts. It was also a lot of fun riding along with Derek and probably scaring some other drivers who were slow with the point.

I set a new PB of 1:36.5 on my first session sunday, but I think the track was very fast. I'm definitely still getting used to the square setup/bbk but no excuses. I'll post up later with a lot more thoughts from yesterday, but it was a lot of fun. Definitely need to get to the track more as I need more seat time. I got some video and pictures I'll go through and post up later.

Sad I missed it, but I got my BBK installed yesterday, so hopefully I have some track days in the near future.

With BBK, I can bleed the brakes without taking the wheels off in the front. Also the clearance is super close, so I'm wondering if I need a extra mm or so for some breathing room.

Man.. I just took a look at my datalogging and I guess Racechrono upgraded at some point to a newer version and didn't save my datalogging settings from prior, so it doesn't look like it used the external gps or the bluetooth obd2 adapter the whole day.. What a f*cking pos.
