thanks evan!

i'm wondering if we can use the decibel level thing to our advantage unless the po's have a meter in their car. or are we just screwed b/c of a modified exhaust?

I can't really see how a decibel meter in their car would work... there would have to be relatively NO noise if they are to get an accurate reading of your exhuast. For that they would have to be in a pretty empty place with their car turned off so there is no wind/road noise and no noise from their car... And then you would have to be flooring it to enough get noise out of your exhuast to reach whatever the limit is...

So basically I think that if the cop THINKS its too loud, he'll pull you over and then take it from there...

And unfortunately since its up to what the cop hears, it becomes his word...

And in court its your word against his... so

Please do. lock it. I don't have the option to do so, and yes, the thread has gone to crap. I thought we were all here to help each other, and answer questions that one may not know, not this . Things have changed since I first joined.

At the risk of actually having something on topic to say... not all of the information has been explored. The letter of the law says:

"(a) Modification that increases sound prohibited.- A person may not modify the exhaust system or any other noise abatement device of a motor vehicle driven or to be driven on any highway in this State in such a way that the noise emitted by the vehicle exceeds that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured. "

Thats exactly the information we're looking for, but it doesn't answer my other question.... does anyone know if you can defend yourself in court by saying that it is the same sound level as the OEM exhaust (or perhaps it is, the mugen is only a db or two higher than stock I would imagine) and that the officer cannot prove otherwise unless he took a decibel level reading at the time that he pulled you over and compared it with a decibel reading taken from a factory exhaust on your year / make / model car?

Anyone use this? Any laywers that might be able to give a hint as to whether or not it would stand up in court?
