Deb, it may not be worth the hassle to return it, but in the future, please use monoprice.com or bluejeancable.com for your cabling needs. They'll come in no-frills packaging, and you're not paying for all the marketing. The end connections are top-notch. Enjoy that HD!

Chris, you may find that none of the SD-DVD players meet your standards. You look at super-nice monitors with, I'm guessing, extreme detail capabilities. If you've watch HDTV, nothing compares. You will come to the dark side soon. At least you will now have a very good player for less than the Denon(and I like Denon ). Some titles will look better than others, too. Armageddon upconverts quite nicely.

thanks, Skip.

I've got the Armageddon Criterion collection edition, so I'm guessing that's going to be an above-average transfer

And heck, who could complain about having to go back to the Magnolia store at that Best Buy

I did see them playing Superman Returns on BR on a Pioneer (?) 65" plasma and it was stunning...

I'm sure I'll break down, as soon as a dual-format player arrives at the $500 price point.

The SuperBit DVDs normally look really good too, especially on an upconvert DVD player. Spiderman Superbit looks nearly HD.

If you must have HD-DVD now, and have a laptop or PC with DVI-out you can get the USB 360 HD-DVD drive and hook it up to your PC via USB and use PowerDVD with HDDVD or WinDVD with HDDVD playback to watch it. The key here is that the 360 HDDVD player only costs $200. $160 if you have the Circuit City $40 off $200 coupon floating around.

I think I'll be getting the iTV, so that may be an option in the future - assuming it will work in my Mac Pro - we'll have a gigabit network running and I've got an ethernet port in the TV wall

Well, I got the new box and hooked up my very expensive HDMI cable... Awesome picture. Gotta wait for the techie on Fri, though, to figure out how to get sound to come out of the Bose system. Something about the audio connections ain't working.

Deb, use the optical out(fiber optic) for your sound. If you're just using your tv speakers, then you need to check your settings on the tv menu(enable HDMI).

If you're using an AV receiver, run the HDMI from the box to the tv. Add'lly, run a fiber optic cable(has light at one end when plugged into the source) to the receiver. You may occasionally have lip sync issues, however, this can normally be remedied by changing channels, and then changing back. Unless you have a relatively new receiver, it won't have an HDMI input. If it did, you'd need one HDMI cable to run to the receiver, and then one more to run from the receiver to the tv.
