You can watch HD over component now. You just need an HD source.

I got the wrong HD box from Comcast - the basic box doesn't have the HDMI outlet on the back. Which I discovered when I went to hook up the HDMI cable. Just used the coaxial cable in the meantime. Exchanging the box today for the HDMI one. The HDMI cable is expensive. The four-footer was about $70 at BB.

Well, these decisions come from ignorance. We just got everything at Best Buy. Did get $200 off the price of the tv, though. Not bad.

Eh I guess that $200 kind of offsets the cost of the cable and a few other things so its not too bad.

Congrats on the TV though

If your comcast box is the same as mine, you should have a DVI output on the back. You could use a DVI to HDMI adapter. Or your could use the component outs on the back. This is a less expensive route, but the pic quality is slightly reduced (I really could not tell the difference). OR, you could continue on your path and take it back to Comcast

I bought my first HDMI cable off ebay--it was $12 for a 12ft cable including shipping. I bought my second one at home depot, again 12ft, for 49.99.

HDMI is expensive, but deals can be found with some searching. And the prices are dropping.

Is anyone using Verizon FIOS? I am switching right after the superbowl. Getting a better DVR (a multi room one that connect to the computer as well as bigger hard drive capacity) all 1,000,000 HBO channels, an additional box, internet and HD for about 15 less per month than comcast.

With comcast I only had the internet, DVR and basic service. And it cost more.

Unfortunately, upon checking the cable box they installed today (after scratching the SHIT out of our newly-installed hardwood floor, thank you very much!!!! ) there is no HDMI connection, only component and DVI-D (and firewire, usb, optical audio). My LCD only has HDMI

Maybe Comcast provides an HDMI-ready box?
Comcast's older HD/DVR box (which I have) has DVI. Their newer boxes (about a year or so old) have HDMI.

You coulda waited to meet up with me for the AVIA dvd

See my above post. It's Older model vs Newer model, and since Comcast reuses their cable boxes you are likely to get stuck with an old model.
