And I agree with Ryan, the PS3 is actually a superior BR player than the entry level stuff.
Rob, I ended up with two Iron Man movies. I must have ordered it twice. I'll bring it to the track this weekend.

I did a little research, and my understanding with the "HD" Audio codecs (Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS HD) is that for PS3, it does not currently support sending BitStreams via HDMI for TrueHD or DTSHD, that means you cannot use your receiver to decode the new formats. DD TrueHD can be decoded inside the PS3 and sent raw to your receiver (PCM format), and DTS HD is "in the works" for internal decoding.
Bitstream via HDMI to your receiver is not out of the question, but it is not currently supported by the PS3.
So that is definitely one thing where a standalone Blu-Ray player would have the advantage.

I'm in no hurry. I don't even have a 1080p display. Maybe I'll just wait.

However, 2 years later -- I would not be surprised to find that there are better players on the market now -- even at a price thats competitive with the PS3.
But -- PS2 was a fairly awful DVD player. It was expected that PS3 would be a fairly awful Blu-Ray player and thats just not the case. It is considered a very good Blu-Ray player for video quality, load times, and upgradeability.

You don't need a 1080p set to enjoy BR or HD-DVD. 1080i still allows you to see a huge difference between SD and HD provided the source material is good. Mine is a 50" plasma.
