Watched WANTED last night on BD. Okay movie with some decent sound. Some of the LFE effects were good, too.

Not in this movie. She's not really featured all that much, but she always looks good.

HT people.... what do you think of the Denon AVR-789/AVR-1909?

http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/4560.asp

http://www.thenerds.net/DENON.Denon_AVR_78...e=24-12404155-2 $475 with shipping

I wasn't going to pick up an AVR with the new LCD but my Onkyo is starting to bite the dust and I'm digging the upscaling to 1080p and Audyssey stuff.

I'm planning on having a HD STB, HTPC (I guess VGA is fine?) and the Denon hooked up to a Samsung LN52A650... I'm guessing I'll have the STB going through the Denon via HDMI to the tv (and all other HDMI doing the same). HTPC will be VGA/SPDIF combo...

oh, if I were to get a BR drive for the HTPC I would also need to pick up a HDMI card since VGA doesn't do HDCP... damn.

Everything should go to the receiver, including the HTPC, then receiver to the TV via its HDMI monitor out. You can use DVI -> HDMI for the HTPC. That's what I have setup.

DVI supports HDCP. But yes, the video card will need to support it. Just don't feel obligated to need an HDMI connector on the back of the PC, that will limit your video card options.

Bill, the Faroudja chip isn't really the greatest at upscaling. Your tv may be better at it. I know mine is better than my 3808. I didn't really see where it does the upscaling to 1080p anyway(may have missed it). It may be a simple passthrough. I believe it said it can convert analog to HDMI.

As for price, if you call 6th Ave on the phone and say you're an AVSforum guy, they most times will go lower on the price. That's how I got my receiver for less than $1k shipped. It currently is on sale on 6th Ave for $1499.

I'm on my second Denon, but only because the first doesn't have HDMI(which isn't really necessary for great sound). The 3300 I have is still rock solid. I would say you can't go wrong with the unit for a sub-$500 pricetag.
