Default quick question?

Ok I just got my car on the 14th, since then ive put about 1000 miles on the car (had to see my gf in boston). I was on my way home last night and the service required light flashed a few times then went off. I would check my owners manual but Criswell didnt have any to give me and the one I ordered hasnt come yet. The car is running fine so im thinking its just an oil change that needs to be done. Any suggestions or insight on what I should do besides just take it to the dealership? thanks.

It's just a reminder to change your oil. Do it soon and reset it. It's been so long since I've had to rest mine that I forgot the exact procedure off the top of my head, but it entails holding down one of the trip odometer buttons while turning on the key.

Take the time, though, to check all fluids, the one belt, etc. That service light varies when it comes on and is based on how the car is driven. Generally speaking it will show itself between 5k-7500 miles.

With the engine off and key out of the ignition, hold the mileage reset button down for 15 seconds. Stick the key in, wait a few seconds while still holding down the mileage reset button. Turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over while still holding down the reset button. Keep holding the mileage reset button until the maintenance light turns off.

To slightly alter what Pete said....

No need to hold the button in for 15 seconds while the car is off. Press the button in, turn the key, then let up once the light goes out.

That's the way I do it, although holding it down for 15 seconds (or even 15 min's) before turning the key won't hurt. It'll just waste some of your time.

It's just a mileage counter. There is a slight calculation to it (i.e. how hard you have been driving) but it really just is mileage based. It comes on approximately every five to seven thousand miles. The system is a precursor to the now popular Maintenance Minder System. (My girl has this in her Civic... I think it is pretty handy. It is also now standard on the new S2k's)

It will blink and then go away at first but, if ignored long enough, it will stay on all the time.

Just reset it as is comes up. I prefer to change my oil at a more regular interval (I drive A LOT). You could, though use it as Honda intended and plan your oil changes around it.
