After reading Rob's post, please don't try to perform a compression check with the valve cover off...

i think my car needs valve adjustment too (even though i only have 5k miles)...
for 1 winter season i started the car up once a month to just get it to run thinking this is good, instead this actually hurt my engine (initially running the engine with all the oil sitting at the bottom due to long sitting causing little/no lubrication in the head)

so now i hear my valves tapping when the oil pressure is down/at idle before i drive off...

in your expertise opinion, do i need a valve adjustment? if so, count me in for group valve adjustment day!

You could speed things up by removing the valve cover while the engine cools. You could also do a compression and/or leak down check while the engine is cooling.

Guys, if you track your car you need a valve adjustment. My engine failure may have been caused by the valves being so far out of adjustment. I bought the special adjustment tool Skip linked too above last week for a valve adjustment this week (missed it by that much!) The tool is sitting there on the bench, mocking me

If you're going to track your car on a regular basis watch how the adjustment is done, it's not that difficult, so you can do it yourself in the future.
Good advice Rob.

So, I have 24k currently. 5 track days on the car and hope to do 10-12 more this year.

When?

With 24k and 5 track days I would say it's time.

I was thinking of the leak down check when I said remove the valve cover because you have to set TDC and connect compressed air to the spark plug socket while the engine is still warm.

You could pull the spark plugs, do a compression check, then pull the valve cover and do the leak down check, let the engine cool and do the valve adjustment, and use a light and magnifying glass to inspect the valve retainers.

the part that the most time consuming is taking the head cover off and letting it cool.

My tech had one of those IR temperature readers where you just point the red laser and it gives you an accurate heat reading.

I can set up any Honda service appointments for any fellow NoVa S2Kers (30K, 60K, oil change, tire replacement, aftermarket install, etc). My tech use ALL genuine OEM Honda parts and tools.

Remember that these are side jobs at an official honda facility, thus the prices are almost 40-50% cheaper than getting it done from the service department. Same procedure but, but performed after-hours after the technician's discretion. PM me for appointments. He can only perform them on Wednesdays

I'm still waiting on you Danzilla hit that mileage

How can I get in on this? I'm not confident I can do it right by myself as I've tried this on my 95 accord and it sounded worse when I was done. Obviously did it wrong.

Just picked my 02 up yesterday with 29k. Was probably never raced but the valves are really noisy and I can't fork out the $400 honda quoted me. Is this really a 3 hour job?
