Ronnie Raygun figured out that drug dealers made perfect boogie men.
You could rant and rave about hem and no one would step forward to argue.
It's not like they are going to form the drug dealer union.

Illegal aliens are a close second as the boogie men.
Although when things get really bad they will come forward.
You can quote all kinds of numbers about them but since it's supposedly an underground economy there are no real numbers on it.

example: did you know that illegal aliens income is in excess of 8 trillion dollars and they ship 7 trillion out of the country every year.......

who can argue...

not at all.

People need real reason to believe that tomorrow is going to be better than today.

The US has a very high standard of living compared with most of the rest of the world.
US wages are substantially higher than China for example. This puts us at a substantial competitive deficit. How do we level the playing field?
Tariffs work in the short term but ultimately are self defeating.
This is evident when looking at the US auto industry which has been propped up by nationalism and protectionist thought.
Now it is on the verge of collapse.

So how can we get rebalanced? One factor in production is energy costs.
I am serious when I say we need to rebuild our energy infrastructure so that we are more competitive in the global markets.
The US manufacturing base has been decimated by off-shoring. The recovery is going to take years to get in place.
The US needs to take the global lead in production of renewable energy sources.
I've banged this drum many times before.

now to the tag line, Obama needs to communicate to American poeple that we are going to do that and why.
Jerry,

If the bill was all about money for infrastructure, research, and expansion I'd dress up in a cheerleader outfit and waive pom poms. How is hundreds of billions in social welfare going to build a new electric grid, or a new water system, or new bridges?

No one is going to feel good about tomorrow knowing that we just borrowed a trillion dollars to pay for social programs. Do you actually feel good about tomorrow knowing that with the deficit we already have, we are going to add another $1.2 TRILLION in debt service? That our deficit will be the biggest ever?

Geesh...it's been ONE WEEK since the guy took office!! Rome wasn't built in a day....I would never want my job performance/review to be based on one week of employment would you?

There will be things people will agree with, and things that they won't, this guy certainly can't please everyone, and he's way too smart to try.

I think people voted for him realize the man does not walk on water, and is not a miracle worker. It would not be a bad idea for folks to stop implying that all of those who voted for him think "CHANGE" will happen overnight. We're smarter than that.
The things he has changed are boneheaded, yep been a week and i have seen enough already!

It was a very interesting class. It was only one day though. I wish it were a 3 day course like the last one I went to. There is so much information to be learned.

Here is a great example of how backwards this liberal state is to reward convicts by buying them HD Tvs that most working folks can't afford.

personally I would prefer to see a much larger chunk in direct expenditure in renewable energy development and deployment.
I'm not sure however that in the short term we can spend much though.
The american psyche needs a specific goal that they believe is going to make tomorrow better.
Bill,
It would appear that you think I am arguing with you.

allow me to clarify on the short term spending component.
I do not believe that the technology is mature enough to deploy 200 billion worth yet.
10 bil on research, done! Make it so.

but the infrastructure spending is about 322 billion and has other components.
are you adverse to spending construction money on schools?
It still puts poeple to work. are you counting construction as a social program?

A lot of people have scoffed at the medical records changes, but if it can lead to substantial reductions in cost of service in medicare for all of the baby boomers, it can be a big win in reducing our tax load down the road.

With respect to the social programs.
According to CNN story it is about 80 billion for the social safety net stuff.

I can tell you. the market out there is tough.
WE were well prepared and it is still eating away at our reserves quickly.

47 Billion goes to the states to offload Medicaid expenses.
this will keep the states working.
virtually all of the states are facing huge shortfalls in revenues this year.
This will keep them going and keep the states from laying off vital services personnel.

Are you adverse to the tax breaks?
The closer people are to the poverty line the more likely that money will rapidly get returned back in to the economy and get spent.

Please be specific in what you are referring to as social programs.

Of course we see what the senate version looks like when it pops out.
None of the news services are reporting it as smaller....

But some people have referred to this as a stimulus bill.
It is an economic recovery plan. I believe that that has a much larger role.

The jobless umbers this morning were even worse than last week.
This means the decline is continuing to accelerate.
I am very concerned that we are looking at a very long term contraction in the economy bordering on the D-word.

It is important to note again that the purchase was funded internally as a result of canteen purchases. The purchases are not coming from generally provided DOC funding.

yup all the Illegals

wtf is wrong with you

scott how many Illegals stole your jobs
That's why I created my own job and I don't hire Illegals . But it does effect my Mom and my Uncle as they are in the construction trade (drywall) . So you can say i see the effect .

Just because it does not effect you or I directly does not mean it is OK . What about the millions it does effect ... Oh ... oh ... it is OK because you have a job .. F everyone else ...

Illegals and Immigrants are two different things , don't confuse the situation . If they did things properly they would not be called Illegals The whole world cant be help by moving here . They only come for the money (sorry we are out ) and send it home . If they cared for this country they would have taken the proper steps to come ...

Next time ask Giles what it cost him and his company for him to work in the states and live here . I still think he is filing paperwork ...Plus he pays more in taxes per $ than you and I . So tell me how it is fair for those that duck the radar and not pay SS or taxes over those that do pay taxes and are married and filled out tons of paperwork ...

am happy that you care for the little guy Steve , but you want change . The United States of Illegals is not the "CHANGE" I was "HOPE"ing for

Steve are you wearing your Ojamas Dont lie
