Default Guardrails, bent metal, and rolling bricks

Time for my annual admonition... It's winter tire time, folks. It doesn't feel like it this weekend, but hey... this is New England.

If you're rolling on summer tires, especially Bridgestones, mornings are starting to get "interesting" around here. It's rather disconcerting to have your summer tires lose their grip and behave like you're driving in a sandy parking lot. I'm afraid this is the time of year people keep stuffing their Ss into guardrails and such.

Anyway, my advice is get winter tires and/or tone down right foot and fast exit ramps. We are now the caretakers of discontinued cars. You can still drive 'em like you stole 'em, but probably best to keep 'em off the turf.

Akways good advice. I put my car sideways in a small rotary on my way to work once. Just a cool morning and the tires were still cold. I wasn't even going that fast. Luckily no one was coming and I didn't damage the car.

the butt end does step out real easy when it's cold, that's for sure.

Winter rubber going on early next month. No plans to drive in the snow but I like to have her out and about as long as I can.

I've been driving the S2000 the last week or so. There's not much more time before they salt the roads in Central Ohio and I quit driving it. I need new SO2s, so I've been VERY careful when it rains. I just don't want to pay for new tires right before parking the car for 4 months.

Excellent move, Connie. If you're not going to drive in snow, winter performance tires (like Blizzak LM series) are excellent and you can drive the car any time you like. If you think you will be out in snow, though, I recommend snow/ice tires (like Blizzak WS series). The car really needs that.

Ed,

It's been a long time since I used S-02s, but they were AWFUL once the cold hit. Total bricks. And any bald tire because a serious problem on the S because of those wide footprints... I drove my last set of rears to the cords and had to drive 20MPH in hte last rainfall I was in. I put my winters on the minute I got home from that ride because I nearly did you-know-what in my pants.

Be careful, man!

My Hankook RS-3s were squirrelly on my drive today, not even going fast. Summer is gone, sucks.

I found with S02's the magic temp to be just under 40°.
they'd just give up grip until you got some heat into the tires.

y'all be careful out there.
