For the 
lovers.
His name is now Mel.
He has visited the vet and it was determined that he is 3-4 years old. He does have a bum leg, but it's mostly a non issue. He is healthy and looking good, and can look forward to losing some of his male parts soon. 
And, the folks who adopted him have also rescued a kitten from an animal shelter.
