Don't you have towing in your insurance policy?

Good Luck Steve, sounds like you have it narrowed down already. Yeah I learned my lessons on powerwashing the engine bay. I always cover the dist. and the alt. when washing the engine bay. And never with a pw again

I've washed many different engine bays over the years. I never ever would use a power washer. I just use my garden hose and set it to a medium pressure spray. Then I just keep it moving so as not to soak one spot. Some engines seem to be more sensitive to water than others. Although I've never washed one, I understand the Corvette engine to be extremely water sensitive. There's something called opti-spark or something like that on the engine and if it gets wet . . . poof! You'll be out several hundred dollars to fix it.

I too have only used a garden hose. If it is a really dirty engine then I'll spray with a citrus based cleaner, let it soak for 10 minutes and then carefully spray it off. I try to stay away from electrical boxes, the alternator and other exposed parts which are lubed (citrus cleaner might disolve the lubricant).

We used to have towing on our policy. It was around $25-35.00/year. We cancelled it and went with AAA. That covers us no matter which car we are driving. Plus we get hotel discounts for all those car meets.

I would stay away from Citrus based cleaners as they tend to stain aluminum and oxidize it .

especially if you have some bling under the hood
