Yes the rich do pay more. For example lets take the data used for CT income tax.
Last year all taxpayers paid $5,469,035,895 in income taxes
AGI $1,000,001 and over paid approx. $1,720,615,228. Thats 31% of the total. Folks with AGI of 50k and less only paid $325,786,851, thats only 6%.
And to put more perspective into this. The taxpayers with AGI of 50k or less number 748,620 will folks with AGI $1,000,001 and over number 8,793 taxpayers.

so the "rich" should pay more!!
Steve, you are going right back to the idea that those who work to get ahead should be dragged down. Your ideas sound like communism to me. In case you have been sleeping for the past 100 years, it doesn't work. Even the Chinese, who are the last big communist stronghold, have influxed a ton of capitalism into their economy.
How about this, for now on, you will work double shifts at your job. All the time. Instead of paying you double, we will give you a 1/4 more than what you make now because heck, you won't need it right? That's what you are saying to do.

I told you so. This kind of shit is what New England is all about. People there take everything so personally and blow it off at the same time. It's amazing. You can get into a heated discussion about, lets say gay marriage, get all riled up about it, and a second later its all fart jokes and boobies.
New England is home to the smartest people in the country but none of them know it. I miss the people there. I think what I miss most is the unabashed honesty. New Englanders tell you what's up, not to be mean, not to be nice, just honest.
Oh yeah, MA still screws you with income tax if you work there and choose to live in the best state, NH. Greedy bastards.

Although the other extreme would be the laize-faire view point or Republicans
in which you let business handle social issues because the more profit means more jobs right? WRONG - Not in this global economy in which more profit means - offshoring as much of the manufacturing/supply chain as possible and take advantage of the third world countries. So where does that leave the "middle-class." Its the middle class (70-150k) that takes the biggest hit since these are the people that are in higher tax brackets but still don't make enough money to take advantage of the loopholes that are afforded to the wealthy.

Why would anyone have a picture like that on file??
