Just make me drive. Then I won't be able to have more than 3 or 4.

BTW I gave up beer for Lent. It's harder than it seems to be stuck drinking liquor for 40 days.

My dad cheats. He gives up Manhattan's and drinks scotch. He likes them both very much so it's not a great sacrifice. We get to harass him about it each year.

I have NEVER, EVER understood the reason for a big wedding. IMHO, it's a HUGE waste of money. The bride spends countless hours planning this, stressing out, trying to make a "perfect day" only to barely have time to enjoy it. I guarantee you every bride does a ton of while planning the "perfect day."

Our son's wedding was modest as far as the "production aspect. We invited about 50 people her side had about 150. I wore a fake smile though the whole thing, I couldn't wait for the day to end.

IMHO, a SMALL wedding is best. Invite your CLOSE friends and family and be done with it. If you don't know the name of the people at your wedding, why bother to invite them? Who says you have to invite cousins you have not seen in 10-15 years?

My suggestion, go on a great vacation, elope, and just throw a casual party when you return.

Those kind of things are hardly a sacrifice... now if you told me you gave up drinking all together for 40 days -- THEN I would be impressed at your willpower

Joe gave up cheese one year and drinking another. He's not religious so I have no idea why. Just to prove he could I guess.

I'm giving up driving my S for lent as well

Or when appropriate, an s2k meet

My wedding was smallish and very inexpensive. I bought a dress I could wear again (and did).

That's your idea of personal sacrifice? Substituting one alcoholic beverage for another?

If you are serious about Lent, you gotta dig deeper than that. For me, it would be to give up chocolate, but that's NOT happening. I see no need.
For me yes it's a huge sacrifice. When I go to restaurants and parties etc. I'm always drinking beer.

Things like sweets, snacks, and desserts mean nothing to me because I never eat them. BTW I could NOT give up alcohol for 40 days, but I won't go there.

Wow, I just can't see it for a wedding, considering how much that would do going towards something like a house.
my thoughts exactly

why waste that much money on something that has a 50% chance of failing

would you jump out of a plane if your parachute had a 50/50 chance of not opening?

just plane silly!!
