I reacll you mention the way to fix the cranky gas cap was actually to replace teh filler neck not the cap.
am I recalling that correctly?

do you know how much it was or was it warranty?

Yes the neck is the problem. its a TSB not Warranty. I just twist the cap by the outer edge and its been fine for years.
