$103,000 dollar speeding ticket
This system was applied in the UK for a while - about 1991 or so - until a revolt!
It seems logical - but!! in the same court people who claimed to be out of work were walking away with a $5 fine while some guy who just clinched a big export order for his company and got a great bonus had to eat $1000 for a lesser offence. The government soon realised it was a vote killer and ditched it. The same logic can be used for anything you do wrong - you don't have a job so you can go round punching people and stealing?

Wow...that's a big fine!!! If that system was put into place here in the US, I'm sure most of us wouldn't be driving our S2000s now...because it seems most of us visit the RED ZONE alot when we drive.
Hmmmm.....a prorated punishment system based upon the wealth of the individual?!!!
If I were to be worth/or make a $1000 and my punishment was $10 for an infraction, then I'd be willing to pay it.
However, if I was worth or make $100,000, then my punsihment would be $1000. I'd be willing to pay the cop off for $500 (and I think the cop may more than likely be willing to accept).
What if the son of the person who makes $100,000 gets into the same situation. More than likely, the kid isn't going to be worth squat. The parent holds all the assests and income...the son's fine is going to be less than the person who makes or is worth $1000. My opinion is that the son should be punished more seeing that he would need to learn a lesson more quickly due to less experience.
What I essentially see here is the beginnings of a caste system. Soon enough, a man's daughter whose worth is $1MM won't be able to marry the son of a man whose worth is only $10K, regardless of love.
I like the current system....I work hard for my net worth (or for some people, their dad's worked hard for the net worth)...I shouldn't be punished more because I worked harder than someone else.

Fines should not be imposed for speeding, no matter the basis, it's unethical. If someone is speeding make them go back 2 miles. Fines are a perk for the state/country, nothing more, revenue generation at it's finest.

Again, fines are a waste, it's only because people are so concerned with money that they do any good at all, there are better ways, punishment can be, and should be, implemented without the use of fines.

Agreed. Penalty points on the licence are the main deterrent for me.
