I have read the story several times. It says that we used his organization to funnel arms and money to the mujahedeen. Since he was dealing with the hard-core Muslim fundamentalists from all over the Middle East, he made contacts which would allow him to become a terrorist later. Josh, I'm with you on this one. I cannot believe the amount and level of jingoism and moronic school bully posturing that is going on in this forum.

Those who believe we must fight till we are the last man standing have no sense of humanity. To win at all costs is not to win at all. You are no longer a human if you no longer have compassion and a sense of brotherhood - the common bonds we should have with other people.

This is not us against them - we are in this life together. The only way to resolve these problems is to treat people fairly. There are many oppressed peoples on this earth who are desperate. They are fighting beacuse of this desperation - take away the need and they will no longer fight.

I am not saying we should not prevent those few, and I guarantee it is a few, who were behind this from doing this again but seriously guys what do you think is going to happen if the West retaliates strongly.

Do you think those on the receiving end will all sit back and say "whoops I better not do that again" No they will come back stronger and angrier than before.

Some of you argue that the solution to that is to kill them all so they cannot do it again. Well I'm sorry folks it doesn't work that way. 1. You will never dispose of all of them; and 2. there will be other, not presently players in this game, who will see the level of vindictiveness displayed by the West, become righteously angry and they will become the next bunch of terrorists.

We have to learn a better way.

I watched the footage of the great celebration going on in all the Arab countries. I heard a commentator observe that the supposedly "moderate" governments of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan might collapse if the US retaliates because the Arab public would overthrow any government which has cordial relations with the US if the US strikes back.

The fact is that there is a Holy War going on out there and they finally got to us. If these moderate governments are like a scab covering up the puss beneath, fine. Hit them hard, let the people overthrow their "moderate" governments and then the alignment would be correct. A people driven by hatred who hate their neighbors whether they be Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, B'Hai or some other kind of Muslim shouldn't be allowed to hide behind their "moderate" governments. That's what we're fighting. More to the point, that's who is fighting us. Let's fight them now, before they figure out how to deliver smallpox, anthrax Vx, and nuclear weapons. Don't think for a second that the kind of hatred we're talking about wouldn't propel those weapons into our cities immediately after the first moment they were able to do it.

I can't get the pictures out of my mind's eye - airliners full of screaming innocent people, canted wings to take out as many floors of the WTC as possible, 80,000 lbs of Jet Fuel atomizing and exploding in the midst of more than 25,000 regular folks finishing their morning coffee and pastries, lives ended in a flash of heat, families destroyed, a great monument of human genius collapsing into a mushroom cloud of dust, and the cheers in the streets of Aman, Beirut, Gaza, Hebron, Baghdad, Mecca ...

Hit them, hit them hard, as to Afghanistan, bomb it from the 7th century into the 2nd century.
