well, I was out tonight with a friend getting a bite to eat at 12:00 at the drive thru of Jack in The Box...

I drive to a parking lot at my local park so that we can eat. My friend finishes eating and plays basketball while I'm still eating with the driver side door open, but all of a sudden, I see a bright light and notice that it's shining directly at my car. So I yell to my friend "what's that light?" and I get out of my car when I see two cop cars and two police officers walking towards me. The first cop asks me what I was doing in the parking lot this late while I have my ranch dressing in my hands and I reply "My friend and I parked so that we could eat." Then he goes on to tell me that this is a city park and we're not allowed to park and/or play basketball after 10:00 PM. So I tell him "ok, we'll be on our way" when he keeps on telling me how it's illegal to be here. It's cold so my natural tendancy is to put my hands in my pockets when he starts to raise his voice violently and obviously tells me to take them out. At this moment, I'm complying in everyway when he asks for my ID. I tell him it's in the car and he tells me to show the other cop where it is. I tell the other cop that my wallet is in the dash but she can't still find it (must be blind) and tells me to show her exactly where it is...so I walk to an area (no where near my car) where I can show the other officer where my wallet is so that they can get my ID. At this point, the first cop grabs me and jerks me back so that I can't show the other cop. He says "just tell her, you should know where it is", so basically the first cop thinks that I may have stole the car (checking my license plate) and he keeps on telling me how I should cooperate when I've been complying with him in everyway I can. I simply tell him that I was just trying to show the other officer, but he keeps on telling to stop arguing, even though I'm just trying to reason with him. He then takes both of my hands, puts them behind my back like he's going to cuff me, pats me down for weapons or what not then tells me to sit down. He then goes on to tell me how I have a chip on my shoulder, a huge block (still don't understand that comment). He starts to question me about my car, still thinking I may have stole it and asks me why I have all these computer parts in my trunk. I tell him that I brought it from school because I'm on winter vacation, he then asks me what my major is and I tell him Computer Science. He then makes a rhetorical statement if I would only be working with "machines", implying that I have no social skills (this got me really heated).
He then goes on to say how "kids these days....back in my day, you would've gotten arrested and went straight to jail and there wouldn't have been a problem" (I'm 18 years old, technically an adult according to the law) then slams my trunk. I'm still telling him that I understand completely (trying reason with the guy). While my personal info is being taken down (social security, home phone, address, etc), he tells me how I'd like to go to jail (on misdemeanor charges? which the cop said I was committing) and "get the shit beat out of" me by rapists, murderers, and other criminals at the county jail. At this moment, I've complied without arguing but he says "that's your opinion" and just keeps on saying how I'm a smart ass and should change my attitude. I just keep on telling him I'm just simply trying to comply so that I can get this over with but he keeps on thinking I'm joking around and just acting like a smart ass. I don't say any type of smart ass comment when my friend says "so what would you arrest us for?" and basically I'm thinking "the cop's gonna go off on us." The cop says "loitering and trespassing" and doesn't acts like a hardass at my friend. My friend makes a smart ass comment but the cop doesn't seem to mind and actually has a little conversation with him. He asks my friend where my friend currently lives and my friends says "DC" and the cop automatically assumes Georgetown (cuz you know, that's the only college in DC ). Then asks what major he is, my friend replies "international affairs" and the cop says "oh, good for you" and acts all nice towards him. Even BOTH officers act friendly towards my friend who's white, like how he's grown while I get all the crap. At this point, I'm starting to think both of the cops are racist. They basically scrutinize me and finally the cop brings me aside and says that he wants to clear the bad blood. So I just say "ok" and just comply with him so that I can go home. They also try to bust me on modifications on my car if I've lowered it or what not and I just say "I have no idea, the car's registered under my uncle's name."

The cop then asks me what would I have thought if I saw what he did? I'm thinking "not much, I see it all the freakin time...everyone parks their cars and eats around here" but instead I just say "same thing." Finally, he actually has me shake hands with him and then lets me go.

btw...these were the 5th cops I encountered in Irvine in a span of 30 minutes.

Anyways, this is my rant for the night, I had to get it out.

you and everyone else must have seen my police post...

i have nothing further to add. i would like to hear your opinion of cops, however.

i feel stressed just reading your story. the only thing i could have possibly thought and will do from now on when a cop pulls me over is to call my own voice mail so i can record ever bastard thing those pigs say. there must be some sort of compensation you can get for that type of uncalled for treatment, isn't there? why can't something be done about these true criminals?

Sorry to hear about your difficulty. I think the comment above was meant to mean that you didn't just have a small chip (of wood) on your shoulder but you had a large chip (i.e. a block of wood) on your shoulder instead.

That just sucks man ... I know these officers go out and risk their lives for the safety of others, but some really do abuse their power. Not everything runs as well as people plan them to be. I've also been "profiled" for no apparent reason, and was given a bogus ticket when he couldn't find anything else wrong, which was later thrown out. Ironically, I was on the way home from the Jack in the Box drive-thru, going home to eat my food.

When are you guys going to learn...stay away from Jack in the Box. It is so obvious cops hate people that go there.

This just further tarnishes my opinion of LA cops. Atleast, you were trying to keep a cool head during the whole thing. Wheww...
