You need simple carbs to spike insulin after a workout since both liver and muscle glycogen have been depleted. Depending on your body type, will determine the amount of carbs needed post workout. This is the only time you would want to consume a drink/food with high sugar. It is best to restore muscle glycogen, instead of liver. Consuming liquids is better, since they are absored more quickly.
When I say simple carbs, I mean dextrose or maltodextrin. Both these sugars absorb into the blood stream quickly (insulin spike) and shuttle nutrients to your muscles.
I am not saying NYC is wrong, but I am not going to argue with him and start a flame war. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
I personally only take 5g during workout, and 5g after along with my whey protein shake that contains 10g glutamine. One hour after post meal, I will have post post meal which is 4 oz chicken with 1cup broccoli and skim milk.
Protein: 80
Carbs: 60
Fat: 2-5
BTW: A good macro to start with is 40/40/20.

Take my advice, and this is the correct advice....if you want to take supplements, take 100% pure of what you need. DO NOT take blends.

Where exactly are you arguing with me? I never said anything about not needing sugar.....in fact, I always tell people to drink 16oz of white grape juice with 5g of glutamine after a workout. 75g of pure dextrose is not only unecessary, its actually bad for you. Not only that, the basics of working out are not opinion based.
We are not talking about working out, we are talking about NUTRITION! You recommend consuming grape juice PWO. I have a different opinion, and that is that you should not consume grape juice. That is an opinion!!
What really frustrates me is people who think they know so much about nutrition, but when you actually see their body, it looks like crap. I have results to prove that my nutrition regimen is well set which is why I make a post. I want to help people achieve the goal they have their insights on.
Here is a quote from an earlier post "This is the best whey powder....
Look...0s all around, and you get ONLY what you need...Isopure 0 Carb."
My opinion on best whey protein would be Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard.
Genetics play much more of a role in size and shape than anything else. You guys are argueing over white grape juice vs cell tech like it's going to make all the difference in the world. Do you know what Jay Cutler drinks as his post work out drink? A CAN OF COKE!!! Do either of you, or anybody else on this board look anything like Jay Cutler? My guess is no.
There is no right or wrong answer to any of these questions. No one thing is going to work for everyone. Hell, no one thing is likely to work the same for any two people. What you need to do, is take in as much information as possible, read it, digest it, and make your best educated guess. There are tons and tons of articles, books, videos, supplementts, etc, etc, etc.
It's a system of trial and error. For some people, creatine is great, for some it's not. For some people, low carb works wonders, for some it doesn't. For some, ephedra is awsome, for some it doesn't work at all. For some people, low impact cardio works best, for others, it's High Intensity Interval Training, for some people, Volume training works best, for others it's HIT.
There are as many different ways to train as there are people training. Don't look for one magic bullet answer. Try something, if it works, great, if it doesn't, try something else. Now I'll throw you for one more loop. Whenever you find something that works great, it's likely to quit working in about six months or so when you body becomes completely conditioned to it, so then it's time to start the search over again.

Oh and just so YOU get your facts straight....
1)Muscles need simple carbs after a workout......FACT
2)Dextrose is the most simplest carb....FACT
3)White grape juice contains more dextrose than any other consumer food/drink.....FACT
So tell me again...where does the opinion come in?
I gained 50-60 lb. in a year and half. My body fat was 6%. All I used was creatine, whey protein, and chromium picolinate. Most of them on and off. I just ate a lot. drank 1/2 gallon of milk everyday. Lunch would be something like a famous star with cheeze, a spicy chicken sandwich, large fry's and a large coke. For Dinner I ate a shit load of rice, vegtables, chicken...snacks throughout the day, gallons of water. Strict workout routine, and well timed meals.

Oh do tell me why drinking all natural grape juice for your dose of dextrose is inferior to swallowing 75g of lab processed crap?

ryoung- It's funny you say that, and I totally agree with you that it is ridiculous to argue. There is a post a page back that said "I don't want to start a flame war" and here NYC is going bezerk.
NYC, maybe you should start turning on the lights when you look at yourself in the mirror.

I definitely agree with you when hitting a plateau. Your body adapts to your routine, and you stop seeing results. I hit a plateau about two months ago and it was frustrating, but have since found a new routine to work with. I did not realize bodybuilding had so much science involved, until my senior year in HS.
The post originally had started on losing more weight. If you consume a drink like grape juice, which consists of fructose, you will be restoring liver glycogen. NYC, you are probably lost right about here, so this is where I will stop and hit the ignore button so I don't have to see anymore of your ridiculous posts.
It is just freaking funny how some people don't understand that people have opinions.
Amit- LOL nice, sounds like you got a kick @ss meal everyday! Good job on the bulk. I am currently bulking, but doing it as clean as possible.

lol.........I guess some people cannot process information fast enough. I never said cell tech is better than grape juice, and vice versa.
