Best Debut Album of All Time
While I enjoy Rage as much as the next guy, IMHO Battle of LA is the gold standard -- not the first disc.
Alanis and Linkin Park def deserve mention. Both impressive debuts.
And while somobody mentioned Snoop, Dre's The Chronic is really where it ALL began.
Now on my must listen to list: Radiohead, NIN and King's X.

Evanescene robbed 50 at the Grammy's. The situation was funny 'tho when 50 came to the podium for a brief panoply.
They're still good nonetheless. I was going to mention Dre and Snoop as well, but someone already beat me to it. Here's another honorable mention
Off The Wall -Michael Jackson

As for Jane's, I prefer Ritual de lo Habitual. If that'd been their first, it would've made my list.

My vote is for Hendrix and "Are You Experienced"....doesn't get much better.
Pop/R&B - Either M. Jackson (Off the Wall), or J. Jackson (Control); more recent Boyz to Men
Alternative Rock - hard too choose Pearl Jam (Ten), or Stone Temple Pilots (Core)
Pop/Rock - Best Ever - Sting (Dream of the Blue Turtles); more recent 3 Doors Down, Puddle of Mudd (though not really their 1st release)
Rap - Best Ever - Too Close to Call either LL Cool J or Redman; more recent Puff Daddy or 50 Cent
