I guess it's time to see ronin.

I can't believe you left French Connection of the Poll. That chase scene through NYC is incredible. I bet it started the whole car chase thing.

The sound of the Mach 1 in the Bullit chase scene was beautiful. I will buy a Mach 1 some day just because of that sound.

BTW- Don't forget the insight chase scene in kramer's spin off tv show. no exhaust sound just "zzzzz" and the chase ends when the passenger turns on the car radio and kills the battery!

I asked my kids, they said Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from the late 60's- just kidding, everyone knows that
Dick Van Dyke is a better detective than car driver

You need to add Vanishing Point to this list. The whole movie is a chase scene, from Denver to the California state line. And don't forget the scene with the topless gal on the mini-bike. The ending is like, wow I can't believe that just happened.

No question Vanishing Point needs to be added to this list and ranked no. 1 or 2 at worst.

Good point. But it was a totally naked girl on a Honda motorcycle. The hippie dude was on the mini-bike after they strapped it to the roof of his car.

(I know I'm gonna get flamed for mentioning a pseudo chick-flick... ...but Rachel Ward is HOT!)

What about the Race in the Movie "Against All Odds"?

Bridges & Woods racing Sunset Boulevard in a Black Ferrari 308 GTS QV & a Red Porsche 911.

It's a short race in comparison to others suggested, but you can see the reflection of the Ferrari in the Porsche door and the reflection of the Porsche in the Ferrari Door. Plus you can see the actors actually driving the cars.
